Chettinad Dry fish Curry


  • ½ Kg Dried Fish
  • 4 nos Onion Chopped
  • 10 nos Garlic flakes
  • 4 nos Tomatoes chopped
  • 1 tbsp Chilly Powder
  • 2 inch Ginger
  • 1 ½ tsp Fennel Seeds
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying.


  • Soak the Dried fish in water for 1 hour and Wash.
  • Cut into small pieces and fry in oil.
  • Make the ginger and Garlic to a paste.Grind the pepper, chilly powder, fennel seeds and cumin with little water.
  • Heat a pan and add oil, add ½ tsp fennel seeds and curry leaves.
  • Add onion, tomatoes, and sauté till soft.
  • Add turmeric powder and chilly powder paste and ginger Garlic paste.
  • Sauté till the oil separates and good smell comes.
  • Add the fried fish and blend with the masala.Cook till done.
  • Add little water if necessary.
  • Add salt only if required.
