Fish Chettinad

Ingredients:

  • Fish – ½ kg
  • Small onion – 18 to 20 chopped
  • Tomato – 1 chopped
  • Tamarind – Small lemon size
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp.
  • Masala chilli Powder – 1 ½ spoons
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Urad dhal – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – A few
  • Oil – 3 tsp
  • Salt _ To taste

Method:

  • Clean and cut the Fish into small pieces.Extract the pulp from the Tamarind and keep it aside.Heat Oil in a pan.
  • Add Mustard seeds and Urad dal. Once it splutters add Curry leaves and Onion till it turns golden brown.
  • Add Turmeric Powder, Masala chilli Powder and Salt. Fry till the smell of masala goes.Add Tomatoes and fry till it is well cooked.
  • Then add Tamarind pulp and 2 cups of water.Cover the pan with a lid. Cook in medium flame for 7 to 10 minutes.Cook till the masala turns thick and mixes well.
  • Finally add Fish to the curry and cook for 5 minutes or till Fish is cooked.
  • As Fish is naturally tender it takes very short time to cook.
